Eight Habits of Leaders

Eight Habits of Leaders

Green Tree East Leadership Academy has integrated the “Eight Habits of Leaders” which are embodied throughout the school, in the classrooms, and in the rules. The students are encouraged to apply the habits in their present and future goals, as well as any struggles they wish to overcome. Each student keeps their own leadership notebook to set personal and academic goals for themselves. This allows the students actively think about what they wish to accomplish, reflect on what they have achieved, and are able to recognize the areas in which they can continue to grow by tracking their progress using data and evidence. The students also share their notebooks and use it to demonstrate to their parents what goals they are working on or which goals they have accomplished.
In addition to developing the habits of leadership, the school also focuses on individual character development and citizenship. They place the importance of not only giving back to the community but also inspiring other to do the same. Mr. Potter says having a good character is one of the most important aspects to carry into adulthood. He wants to encourage students to look inward and see the “wealth that is contained in each child.”
